Weekly Wrap

May 30th-June 5th, 2016

I am joining the Weekly Wrap hosted by Holly from HoHo Runs and Tricia from MissSippiPiddlin. The Weekly Wrap is a blog link up where bloggers share their active lifestyle and other exciting things weekly. To find out more, click on the image below. Feel free to join in on the fun.

I am currently not training for anything. I will begin training for the Pensacola Marathon (my third marathon) in July.

Monday, May 30th

I joined the RW Run Streak on Monday (run at least 1 mile/day Memorial Day through the 4th of July). I attempted the streak last year, but quit after 17 days due to a stomach virus. I'm hoping to redeem myself this year. My plan is to run my usual mileage on five days of the week and run a 1-1.5 miles on the other two days when I would normally rest.

I ran 1.5 on Memorial Day. We didn't do anything special on Monday for the holiday since we just returned from our beach trip. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day! May we never forget the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Tuesday, May 31st

I ran a 5K for Day 2 of the RW Run Streak. Don't you just love my Starry Night Spandits! boardies. Use code SPANDITSLOVE to save 10%.

This run made 102 miles for the month of May. I am still a little behind on my goal of 1,200 for the year, but I am catching up.

Wednesday, June 1st

I ran four miles for Day 3 of the streak and for Global Running Day. I started teaching for the Extended School Year program on Wednesday. It's only half days Monday through Thursday for the month of June. It keeps me busy. I can't imagine sitting around the house all summer.

Thursday, June 2nd

I ran five miles for Day 4 of the streak.

 Friday, June 3rd

I ran 1.5 miles on Friday to continue the streak.

I met my grandfather and cousin for breakfast. My cousin is staying in Fairhope before moving to Texas this fall. She was passing through town. I enjoyed our short visit.

Michael and I went fishing later that afternoon, but we didn't have much luck. I enjoyed the peacefulness on the water on a week day.

Saturday, June 4th

There was rain in the forecast all weekend, but luckily I caught a break in the rain to run a short 5K for Day 6 of the streak.

Michael's cousin got married on Saturday night. Luckily the rain held off for the ceremony. It was beautiful!

 The happy couple
Shay and Shelby

Those are weights on top of the groom's cake. Shelby is a personal trainer.

The bride's cake was chocolate chip and cream filled cookies.

The bottom dropped out an hour or so into the reception. Water flooded inside the tent and they had to cut the lights because of the electricity. A party that should have lasted well into the night was quickly shut down. We were home by 9:00.

Sunday, June 5th

I ran a long run of 6.2 miles on Sunday. It was another steamy day as evident from all my sweat.

We went to the assisted living around lunch to celebrate Michael's grandmother's 90th birthday with cake. Her birthday really isn't until Thursday, but this was the only time we all could get together.

Later that afternoon, I visited my mom and dad. They're fostering a two year old Chihuahua mix for a week. He's really sweet. Maybe they'll decide to keep him. His current name is Goro. That would have to be changed. Haha!

Have you ever fostered an animal? Did you decide to adopt after fostering?

Are you doing the RW Summer Run Streak? If not, have you ever done a running streak? What's the longest you've been without a rest day?

  1. I did the RW Holiday Run Streak in 2013 two months after giving birth to my second daughter. I wanted to start running again and it was the best way for me to get back into a routine. I haven't done it since then though. I am thinking about a summer strength streak starting at the beginning of summer until the 4th of July. It's actually what I did over the holidays instead of a run streak. Will see how many people would be interested in joining. Awesome job on your first week of 'streaking'! I love the groom and bride's unique cakes at the wedding. Too bad it got rained out :(

    1. A strength streak sounds interesting. I definitely need to incorporate more strength training in my routine.

  2. Too bad about the rain during the wedding reception except that rain on your wedding day is good luck! I love the unique wedding cake and cookie cake. Very fun! Great job on your May mileage!! That dog looks like a Goro! lol My daughter rescued a dog and she was only going to get his shots taken care of and get him healthy. Ended up, she couldn't let him go and now he is her furry baby that she loves like she loves her baby.

    1. I get attached too. I have two rescues my cat Lily and my dog Allie. Rescues are the best!

  3. We are hoping to foster this summer but so far are still just waiting.

Looks like a great wedding; too bad about the flood!

    1. There are more animals than fosters here unfortunately. They're working to strengthen our spay/neuter laws. You wouldn't believe the litters of puppies and kittens dumped on the side of the road every day. Our shelters are flooded. For that reason, I will always choose to adopt rather than purchase an animal from a pet store. These animals deserve a good home. I would take them all in if I could.

  4. Great job with the RWRunstreak! I did it a couple years ago during the winter. I was thinking about doing it but with the backpacking trips we are taking thought otherwise. That's too bad about the rain made for a shorter reception. Looks like a beautiful place for a wedding and love the cookie cake!

    1. Thank you, Sharon! You're getting plenty of exercise with all your hiking trips lately. I really don't see how people streak for years. I imagine it gets complicated when you travel. It was a beautiful wedding! I'm glad the rain held off for the ceremony and part of the reception, so they could get some good pictures and videos.

  5. I thought of you and your kittens when I posted about my parents' foster dog. I am feeling pretty good with the streak so far. Unless something unforeseeable happens I should be able to finish. I'm glad the rain held out for the ceremony and the beginning of the reception. They still got some great pictures and videos before the flood.

  6. The rain at the wedding reception sure stinks! I just recently learned what a "groom's cake" is! We don't see those around where I live. Now that chocolate chip and cream filled cookie cake... YUM 🍪🍪🍪

Way to keep the RW streak going strong! You're doing great.

    1. Thank you, Amy! I guess I always thought groom's cake was something people had at every wedding reception. Groom's cakes can get pretty creative here in the south. Most are centered around football teams and hobbies like hunting, fishing, or golf.

  7. Way to get the run streak going!!! I'm envious about your weekday fishing day. Also, love the wedding pics- crazy about the down pour! At least it happened at the reception and not the ceremony itself
    🙂
That little dog is the cutest!!!! I hope he gets adopted!!! I've fostered animals before and I officially became a foster failure this week!( meaning I adopted the pup we have been fostering since January). She's a beautiful golden retriever mix who is so gentle with my children. She has her quirks ( she has been obviously abused in her past and has a few issues but she has come a long way!!) she is trueley a good dog who just wants to love and be loved
    😃💕😃

    2. Thank you, Melissa! I was glad the rain held off for the ceremony and part of the reception. They were able to get some great pictures and videos before the downpour. I imagine it's hard not to get too attached when fostering. I would probably have a house full if I ever started fostering.

  8. I love the picture of you two and that wagon and cake are so dang cute! How creative! Wait and even more creativity with the unique wedding cake! I bet there was not many of these passed up!
I'm still going strong with the streak too. I'm not putting in the mileage you are but I'm still legal! :)

  9. Debra - Congrats on going strong with that running streak - that's not easy! I don't think I could do one. I got injured a bit lately from overuse. The cake with the little weights on top is such a funny idea!

  11. You are doing great with the running streak. I passed because I know I would go longer than a mile on days I shouldn't. I need to be fresh (and uninsured) for this next training cycle. That looks like a really nice wedding. I love the theme. It's too bad it got cut short due to rain. You both look great in that picture. I think I would want to adopt every animal I fostered. Goro looks so cute. Thanks for linking Debra!

    1. I'm trying to stay disciplined with just 1-1.5 miles on my normal rest days. So far so good! I thought this streak would help keep me in a routine before I start my official training plan. I would have a house full of animals if I started fostering. I get too attached!

  12. Debra, you are rocking it out with that running streak! I once did a RW streak between Thanksgiving and New Year's and it was tough to do. It takes a lot of perseverance! The wedding looks beautiful so it is a shame to hear about the rain. Mother Nature can be challenging at the worst times, sadly. I love the weights on top of the cake! Kudos to your parents for fostering Goro - it literally means everything to those pets in need!

    1. Thank you, Em! I may try the one from Thanksgiving to New Year's depending on how this one goes. I've always wanted to do that one, but the past two years I've ran a marathon the first weekend in December. I don't want to try a streak while marathon training. This is my parent's first experience with fostering, but it's been a good one for them and Goro.

  14. You had a great start to the RWRunstreak! I did a streak a couple of years ago between Thanksgiving and New Year's...it's a great way to stay motivated but it was a little too much for me! The wedding looks beautiful and I love the two cakes! Bummer about the rain though!

    1. Thank you, Janelle! I hope to make it the 36 days, but after that I don't plan to continue. I'm starting marathon training in July and I'm gonna need the rest days. It's keeping me motivated, but I don't see how people streak for years.

  15. I am so impressed with you and others who do the run streak! I have a hard time staying committed to anything that long! Way to go!

Pretty dress for the wedding. Glad the rain held off for the wedding ...too bad about the reception.

Look at the cutie of a dog!

I never knew you could foster dogs until recently. That is a great idea!

    Have a great week!

    1. Thank you, Tamieka! I'm going to try to make it 36 days, but I probably won't continue after that. I really don't see how people streak for years. My parents have enjoyed fostering. I don't think I could do it. I would get too attached!

  16. I'm a week behind... but... I googled the name Goro and it's a Mortal Kombat character? haha I have a chihuahua and he's the best mix of cat and dog. He's friendly like a dog, but small enough to cuddle like cat.

My longest runstreak was earlier this year. I stopped at day 100, mainly because I went on vacation and didn't feel like cramming in one treadmill mile on our travel day! I really enjoyed the streak. I think it helped me re-fall in love with running! The mile days are so fun.

    1. That's what I've been told about the name Goro...lol. Fostering has been a good experience for my parents and Goro. I am going to try to make it the 36 days, but I probably won't continue after that. I imagine it does get difficult when you travel to unfamiliar places. I don't see how people streak for years.
