I am not training for anything currently. I will begin training for the Pensacola Marathon (my third marathon) in July. I am participating in the Runner's World Summer Run Streak (run at least one mile a day Memorial Day through the 4th of July). I just wrapped up Week 2 of the streak.

Monday, June 6th

I ran a short 1.5 mile run on Monday. I normally cross train or rest on Mondays, so I try to keep my runs short (1-1.5 miles) on those days during the streak. I don't want to overdo it.

Tuesday, June 7th

I ran a 5K for Day 9 of the RWRunStreak. I got an early start because I had a meeting before Summer School at 7:00. I do fine getting out early when I have somewhere to be in the mornings.

Wednesday, June 8th

I ran 4 miles for Day 10 of the streak. I can't believe I've made it into the double digits already.

Thursday, June 9th

I ran 5 miles for Day 11 of the streak. Technically, I ran 4.99 miles. Does that drive anyone else crazy? I'm usually one to make loops in the driveway until I have an even number of miles, but I goofed. I hit the save button too soon.

Friday, June 10th

I ran a short mile and a half for Day 12 of the streak. There's no summer school on Friday's, so I didn't have any morning obligations. I hit snooze one too many times, and it was HOT by the time I finally got out the door. I started out way too fast, but I felt ok. That was until I stopped to talk to a neighbor a mile into my run. While I was standing there, I felt like I was going to throw up. I ended up walking the last half mile home.

I may have had a tough run, but at least I looked cute in my Aurora Borealis print Spandits Boardies! You can save $10 on Boardies or 1/2 inch Tights now through July 1st. Use code SPLASHINTOSUMMER. Don't forget to tell them I sent you at checkout.

Saturday, June 11th

I learned a valuable lesson on Friday's run. There's no sense in making myself sick over a practice run. I told myself to forget what the Garmin says and run by feel on this run. Surprisingly I ran even splits (10:38, 10:38, 10:36). It worked! Plus, I felt much better when I was done.

Michael and I went fishing Saturday. We didn't go to our usual spot because it's so crowded on the weekends. Instead, we went fishing on a different lake just below the dam. I get nervous fishing below the dam with the swift current, but it's usually a guarantee to catch fish. We didn't catch anything really worth keeping. I caught a few drum. They're not the best eating, but they are so much fun to catch. They bend your rod and put up a nice fight.

This picture doesn't really do the current justice.

This is the biggest drum I caught. He lived to see another day.

Sunday, June 12th

I did a 7 mile long run on Sunday. Once again I got another late start, so I took this one at an easy pace.

Do you have a hard time getting up early when you don't have any morning obligations?

Do you like fishing? What's the biggest fish you've caught?

  1. My husband and I have done a lot of fishing over the years. I'm kind of squeamish tho, and so he baits the hook and takes off any fish for me. A few years ago I caught my one and only walleye! It was so exciting! He was big and we ate him. We've caught no walleye since.

    1. I don't mind putting worms or minnows on my hook, but for some reason I don't like crickets. I think it's the chirping noise they make when you're trying to get them out of the basket. I also don't touch catfish because they can fin you. I let Michael handle those. It's funny how you'll always remember your biggest catch.

  2. I had to laugh at the 4.99. Sometimes I'll hit save too soon like you did, and it really bothers me! And yes, I see some very early runs on my future now that it gets hit so early. Great week!

    1. Thank you, Jennifer! Some people suggested I add 0.01 to my run the next day, but that would bug me too. So I just let it be...lol. I do ok with getting up early until the weekend rolls around. I'm going to learn one day that the snooze button isn't worth it.

  3. i have a hard time getting up early even when i DO have obligations haha. but great job on keeping up with the running streak and being smart about your mileage; i think a lot of people overdo it in the beginning of a streak, but you're pacing your mileage just right!

    1. Thank you, Brittney! I'm trying not to overdo it.

  4. I round out the numbers if my Garmin is showing a fraction of a number. I've run around a parking lot before, out and backs, and around my apartment building to get an even 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or full mile number.

    1. I like to round mine to the half or full mile. I don't mind in races though.

  5. I am really finicky about running even numbers! I will run circles or pace back and forth in front of my home until I get to a round number. You have great motivation to wake up early and knock out your runs before heading to work! It's a terrific feeling to have the workout taken care of first thing so you can focus on everything else afterwards, isn't it?

    1. It is a great feeling to have my runs done early. I never feel like running at the end of the day.

  6. My hats off to you for running every day is this muck. Steamy doesn't even describe it. We had a lot of fun deep sea fishing and have eaten all the mackerel (it doesn't freeze well). Now, it's time to start on the snapper. I really like those Spandits. Do they fit true to size? Thanks for linking with us Debra!

    1. I saw your pictures! It looks like y'all caught quite a few! I wish I could handle deep sea fishing. The Spandits do fit true to size. I normally wear a 4-6 pant size and I wear a Small. They have some cute skirts too, but I haven't tried them.

  7. I like eating the fish that the BF catches. He caught a few striped bass earlier this week, so it was fish on the grill for dinner last night!!! I'm much too impatient for fishing.

    1. It can get boring when you're not catching, that's for sure!

  8. If I ever get a day when I don't have obligations and have a chance to sleep in a little, the toddler usually wakes me bright and early. Haha

    1. The joys of having little ones around. I don't have any kids. Maybe one day.

  9. We don't share many of the same interests, but we do enjoy fishing together. It is so easy to talk myself out of getting up especially on the weekends. I'm hoping to see this streak through to the end. I'm halfway there.

  10. Great job keeping the streak alive this week! That 4.99 mile run would have driven me crazy, too. All of your tank tops are so cute, by the way!

I've never been fishing and never caught a fish, but I do like spending times at lakes at rivers. :)

  11. Great job on your streaking! I did the RW summer streak two years ago (I think?), but last year I had my first PF episode and this year my heel has been a bit ornery as well....so no streaking this year either. It's amazing how fast all those 1-1.5 runs add up over the course of 30-ish days ;-)

  12. Great job on your run streak and your marathon training. I have never tried a run streak yet. As much as I love to run, I never run everyday but it's fun watching you guys being so dedicated. Looks like you are really smart about your training as well. I haven't been fishing for years but my grandson loves it so I am sure I will be out there soon enough. I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend right now!!

  13. Way to keep up the streak! Looks like you got some good runs in this week! I enjoy fishing but haven't gone in a long time. The joy you get when catching something is the best. Sorry to hear you didn't catch anything worth eating.

  14. "No sense in making myself sick on a practice run"... I am so glad you said that. There are times that I am so worried about my pace but then I have to stop and ask myself why I am pushing so hard on a training run. Training runs are all about finding a pace that is good for you. I have become more in tune in listening to my own body over the past few weeks. Especially since its been so hot out!
