Weekly Wrap

May 9th-15th, 2016

I am joining the Weekly Wrap hosted by Holly from HoHo Runs and Tricia from MissSippiPiddlin. The Weekly Wrap is a blog link up where bloggers share their active lifestyle and other exciting things weekly. To find out more, click on the image below. Feel free to join in on the fun.

After a four month Weekly Wrap hiatus, I am more than ready to return to the fun connecting with other bloggers. March through May  is an incredibly busy time for a special education teacher. I didn't have the time to commit to visiting and leaving comments on other bloggers' posts in the weekly wrap. Now that we only have eight days of school left, I plan to catch up on my blogging and connecting with other bloggers. I sure have missed everyone.

A few things have happened since I've been gone:

1. I mooned up in Half Fanatics finishing 4 half's in 28 days. In case you missed it, I did manage to recap those races. (Sea Turtle Half Marathon, Tuscaloosa Half Marathon, Montgomery Half Marathon, and the Blue Angels Rock n' Fly Half Marathon)

2. I signed up for my third marathon, the Pensacola Marathon on November 13th. I will begin training the second week in July. I've used Hal Higdon's Novice Plan for my first two marathons. I may try his Intermediate plan for this marathon, but I'm still doing my research. I plan to recap my training here on the Weekly Wrap.

3. I ran another local half (Centerpoint Half) and a few local 5K's (CCAD Run for Autism, Run for a Mom, and Pancake Run for Missions) which I still need to recap. So stay tuned. I have one more race next weekend, the Jubilee Run for Cancer 8K. That will probably be my last race for a while. It's so hard to find races here in June and July.

Now that you're caught up on my past few months, here's the highlights from my week.

Monday, May 9th

I took a much needed rest day on Monday. My allergies started acting up over the weekend and I didn't feel well.

Tuesday, May 10th

I laid out my clothes for Tuesday morning, but my head was still stuffy when my alarm went off. I decided to take another rest day and enjoyed an extra hour of sleep.

I got some great news on Tuesday. I was selected as a 2016-2017 Spandits! Ambassador. Marcia (Marcia's Healthy Slice) convinced me to try the Boardies after seeing all her posts on Instagram. I love these shorts! The spandex is super comfy and they don't ride up or chafe. Plus, they have the cutest patterns. I can't wait to order more Boardies and I have my eye on the capris for this fall.

Wednesday, May 11th

I felt a little better on Wednesday and I was able to get a four mile run done.

Thursday, May 12th

I ran five miles on Thursday morning. The humidity was terrible that morning.

Friday, May 13th

I normally like to schedule a rest day before a race, but I had to run Friday morning to get my miles in for the week. I am a little behind on my goal of 1,200 miles for the year, but I am not giving up.

Saturday, May 14th

I ran the Pancake Run for Missions 5K on Saturday morning. This run has always been scheduled the same weekend as the AGAPE Run for a Mom, but it was the weekend after this year. I was so glad I could participate. The course was beautiful and the weather wasn't too terribly hot or humid. I ran a decent race, finishing in 26:05, and I placed 2nd in my age group. It was nice to see my friend Valerie (@icecreamrunner) at the race. She placed 1st in her age group!

Later that afternoon Michael and I went fishing. We haven't had much luck lately. The fish aren't biting for us this year. Michael did let me reel in the catch of the day, a nice sized bass.

Sunday, May 15th

I'm trying to be consistent running a longer run (1+ hours) on Sundays leading up to my marathon training. Last year I got out of the habit of doing long runs over the summer and it made it difficult during the first few weeks of my training.

I ran seven miles this morning. I got another late start, but luckily it wasn't too hot or humid. There was also a nice breeze blowing. I've got to enjoy days like these while they last.

I don't normally refuel on runs less than ten miles, but today I was starting to feel lightheaded and dizzy midrun. I stopped to eat a pack of my Honey Stinger chews and I felt better almost immediately. My last 3.5 miles were strong and I ran negative splits. I love Honey Stinger's natural, organic products for the energy they provide me with on days like today.

Are you currently training for any races?

I hope you had a great week! I look forward to reading all your posts.

  2. Sounds like you had a great week! I like to keep an 8-miler in my weekly schedule so I am in good shape for my 10 mile races. It does get harder in the summer.

    1. Thank you! I'm just aiming for an hour or more on Sundays. I went two months without a long run when I started training for my second marathon last fall and it was so hard getting back into those long runs.

  3. Glad to have you back! Great job on your 5K! I'm currently looking at a marathon in November. I used Hal Higdon's Novice 1 for my first training and loved it. I'll use it again if I decide to do this race. My goal this summer is to try and find enough halfs around my area that I can get into the Half Fanatics! I like your plan on running a long run on Sundays to get used to it for your training. I need to do that in case I do decide to start training again!

    1. Thank you, Tara! It's great to be back. I love Hal Higdon's plans. I got out of the habit of running long last summer, so I'm hoping this will help me ease back into my training. Good luck qualifying for Half Fanatics. I've met some really nice people at the races just by wearing my half fanatic gear.

  4. I need to update my stuff/stats with Half Fanatics. I think I mooned up after last year (a certain number of races within a 12-month span, I think), but I'm behind on my dues LOL Thanks for the reminder! And congrats on all those halfs!

    1. Thank you! It will take me a while to moon up again. Some of the levels are pretty tough to accomplish, but people do it. I just like connecting with other Half Fanatics at the races. I've met some great people just by wearing my half fanatic gear.

  5. I'm so pumped to have you on Team Spandits!! All the best with your Pensacola Marathon training. I think my marathon is the week before your so I guess I should fire up training in July as well. Can tell I've paid zero attention to it so far? Haha!

    1. Thank you, Marcia! I am very excited to be a part of Team Spandits!! I can't wait to try the capris this fall. I'm hoping to improve my marathon time again this year. You've done enough marathons. I'm sure that you'll ease right into your training.

    1. Thank you! I'll teach summer school the month of June, but it's only a few days a week until noon. Teachers go back August 1st, so it won't be much of a summer break.

Yeah for signing up for another marathon, it will be interesting to see what plan you chose and to follow your training. I am starting my training in June for NY...

  9. Welcome back! Sounds like a great week! Congrats on placing 2nd in your AG for the 5K! I'm thinking about using Hal Higdon's Intermediate marathon plan for Chicago, but I'm still looking too.

    1. Thank you, Sharon! It's great to be back! My only concern about that plan is the 5 days/week with marathon pace runs the day before the long run. I'm afraid I might get burnt out. I'm trying to start running 5 days a week leading up to that training. I've been at it for four weeks now. I look forward to following your training for Chicago.

  10. I'm glad to see you back on the WW Debra! I missed you! Congratulations on a great finish at the Pancake Run. In the past, it's been very humid so I'm glad to hear the weather was better this year. I'll be marathon training during the summer too. I may not train as many weeks this time, but haven't really decided. I hope to see you at Jubilee. Thanks for linking!

  13. Thank you, Karen! I'm so excited about being selected as a Spandits! ambassador. I look forward to trying the capris this fall. I am going to have to stay disciplined about getting my runs done early this summer. Those hot runs are miserable.

  14. Congrats on your Half- Marathons in 28 days! That's a an awesome foundation for your upcoming Marathon training. I love Hal Higdon's plans. I trained with his Intermediate plan for my last 2 marathons and I really liked it. Nice solid week of training! Always see your runs on IG!:):)

    1. Thank you! I used his Novice plan for my first two marathons. I'm hoping an extra day of running and 2-3 20 milers will help me improve my time this year.

  15. I am not sure why God gave me the appetite of a 6' Amazon. I've done fasted runs up to about 8 miles, but they're the exception for me, not the rule. No doubt why I struggle with weight.

Congrats on being chosen as a spandits ambassador! I considered going to the store when we were in ME, but it was about an hour north of where we were staying, and the trip already involved a LOT of driving.

    1. Thank you, Judy! I will probably never make it to the Spandits! store in Maine. It's a good thing they offer their product online. It's the most comfy spandex I've ever worn!

  16. Ugh. Allergies. I feel you. I have them bad, and the Charleston area is absolutely terrible for allergies (even one of my dogs has more issues here and is on meds for it!). And this southern humidity really is the worst. But training through it makes us better runners in the fall!

  17. I love Honey Stinger. Their chews were the first I tried when I gave up trying to choke down the GUs. I can't handle the consistency of GUs and I like chews so much more. I'll also eat the Honey Stinger waffles post-run to start recovery right away.

    1. I've never tried GU's. I've steered clear of them since I heard they aren't good for people with sensitive stomachs. I love Honey Stinger products! I've used both the waffles and the chews to fuel my long runs.

  21. My allergies started acting up over the past couple weeks too! I am really hoping they don't affect my running, but I do notice that they are the worst after I am outside for a long run.
