As most of you know, I am currently training for my second marathon at St. Jude Memphis this December. I just completed Week 7 of Hal Higdon's Novice 2 Marathon Training Plan. I will recap my training from here on out in the Weekly Wrap.

Monday, September 14th

I had a very busy week. Monday is usually my rest day, but this Monday was Parent Report Night at school. Teachers didn't have to report until noon, so I took advantage of the extra time this morning and did my mid-week semi long run of 7 miles. It felt wonderful outside only 55 degrees and sunny. Perfect running weather!

Tuesday, September 15th

I ran four miles at an easy pace. Another nice morning, 60 degrees, cool, crisp air.

Wednesday, September 16th

I did the last of my weekly runs, another 4 miles at an easy pace. I had a long commute to training for school on Thursday and Friday, so I had to get my runs done while I had time.

Thursday, September 17th
Friday, September 18th

I attended a training for school on PECS, the Picture Exchange Communication System. I was excited to attend this training because I think this system will benefit most of my students with developing functional communication. I had very little knowledge on PECS before the training, and it helped to clear up a lot of misconceptions I had. For example, I thought I would use the program for only my students who are nonverbal, but now I see where I can use it for most my students. The presenters kept it interesting and we were able to practice using the system throughout the training. I look forward to implementing what I've learning in the weeks to come.

Saturday, September 19th

I completed my long run of 14 miles. I ran loops around my neighborhood, which can get a little boring at times. I prefer to be close to home though, so I can stop by the house to refuel or go to the bathroom. I felt great the entire run. Although, it was starting to warm up outside in the last miles.

After my run, I grabbed a quick bite to eat. Then, I took a long two hour nap. We had tickets to the Bama -vs- Ole Miss game and kickoff wasn't until 8:00. Later that afternoon, Michael and I met up with my parents to head to Tuscaloosa for the game.

It's going to be a tough season for Bama. I wish the game had a better outcome, but the Tide continued to fight. It was a great comeback effort at the end. With five turnovers, we were fortunate that we only lost by six points. Roll Tide, anyway!

Sunday, September 20th

It was after 3:00 in the morning when we got home from Tuscaloosa. I didn't even set an alarm for this morning. I woke up around 11:00! I don't remember the last time I slept that late. I was so exhausted after the game. I didn't do anything too terribly exciting today. Michael and I got the yard done. Later, he went grocery shopping while I cleaned house. I'm lucky that he doesn't mind doing the grocery shopping. I hate it! I got the laundry caught up this evening. Now it's time to rest up and get ready to go back to school tomorrow.

Way to go on your runs! You got this!

Love PECS!!! I use to teach special ed and loved how PECS helped all of my students. God luck with that.

    1. It always takes Bama some time to get in the groove. Once our quarterback gets settled and the offense starts rolling, we'll be fine. Our defense looked great for the most part.

Awesome testament for PECS! I didn't realize it had been around for 30 years and it's used all over the world! The data they shared spoke volumes for what it can do for my students.

    3. I have signed up for the Paris Marathon 2016. A bit far away but that way I get to anticipate.

  4. I hate grocery shopping, too. Only problem with sending my husband is he only buys the type and quantity of food that he needs for the week so I end up having to go anyway. Glad you are in that zone of perfect running weather! Enjoy!

    1. My husband is pretty good about sticking to my list. He buys extra stuff that he wants too, but that's fine with me as long as he gets what we need. The cooler weather won't stick around long, so I have to enjoy it while it lasts. We have wacky weather in Alabama.

  5. Great job with your training this week! Sometimes it makes sense to move workouts around according to your schedule. I don't mind doing grocery shopping but I don't want anything to do with yard work:)

    1. I actually love yard work! I'd rather do that than cleaning house. My husband and I fuss over who gets to mow the grass...lol.

  6. I didn't realize you were training for your 2nd marathon and it's going to be in Memphis too!! I'm going to be following your training closely as I'll be a month behind you participating in my 1st in January. I'll be doing the half at St. Jude too how neat is that, maybe we could try and meet in person! Wow you did have a late night and after 14 miles whoa! Good thing you got in nap. I was up as well watching the game, a nail-biter for sure! If you like football at all no matter who your pulling for it was a great game. So glad you joined us this week to wrap it up with us! I hope you have a great week Debra!

    1. I'm excited for this year's race. I'm hoping to improve my time if only by a few minutes. I'd love to meet you. Hopefully, we can arrange it. Good luck with your training! Your first week was a great start!

  7. Huge BAMA fan and your "neighbor". HH Novice 2 is what I used, sort of, for marathon training. Yippee for the taper! I changed it quite a bit though. I wanted to run 4 days a week but the mileage seemed low in the beginning. I hope Saban can work his magic with the current BAMA team. They always seem to start out slow. Don't get me started on grocery shopping... worst chore ever. I'm so glad you decided to link with us today. I hope I'll see you at a local race this Fall!

    1. You rocked your training! With a 23 mile long run, I'd say your set for race day. Rest up and enjoy your taper! Bama does always seem to get off to a slow start. Glad we've got LA Monroe this weekend before heading to Georgia. I like the Link up, it was easier to do than I expected. I hope to see you at a race soon. It's hard fitting them into my schedule without rearranging my plan toon much.

    1. I love going to the Bama games! I don't get to go as often as I used to, but I still try to go to at least one a season. Thank you! Great job on your training as well. Enjoy your taper! I look forward to following your posts on race day!

  9. Congrats on a great week of training, Debra; I'm so ready for cooler weather to arrive (and stick around) because I know I'll enjoy training a bit more. You're going to do great at St. Jude's; one of my good friends in Memphis used that one as her first full marathon (last year) and she had a great run. I've only done the half course once, but I really enjoyed it. Hope your week is off to a great start!

    1. I actually ran my first full there last year. It was supposed to be my first half marathon in 2013, but when it was cancelled due to the winter storm I decided to go back and do the full in 2014. I love running for St.Jude! Other races don't compare to the overall experience. I can't wait for this year's race!

  10. Nice job getting in all those miles! Ohhh I want 60 degree weather right now!! Sounds fab! How exciting that you running another marathon - very cool! Happy Marathon Training to You!

  11. Great job adjusting your schedule to get all of your miles in around work. I often had to do that during marathon training - just gotta make it all work!

I wanted to stay up for the whole Bama game, but it started too late in the evening and I had a race the next morning. What a comeback they had in the 4th quarter! I don't root for either team, but as someone who loves college football that was quite the game. Wish I could have watched the whole thing live, but I saw clips later.
