Paint the Park for Jody Race Recap

January 31, 2015

This was the first annual Paint the Park for Jody 5K Color Fun Run. Jody was a local high school student and cross country athlete who passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2014. All proceeds from this run went towards a scholarship fund in her memory.

There were several local teachers and students who participated in this event. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Jody personally, but what a wonderful way to honor her memory. I know she would be proud of the impact she made in the community and for the students who benefitted from her scholarship.

My friend Minerva ran this race with Isabella in the stroller.

My nieces CJ and Emma also ran this race.

This was a fun run, so it wasn't timed. They had an alternate course called "Jody's Way" which was about half the distance of the 5K for runners who didn't want to go the full course. They had 5-6 color blasts on the course and two water stops.

At the end of the race, they awarded the top male and female finishers. They also had a prize for the cutest dressed participant. A former student of mine won that award. They gave out door prizes from some local sponsors. Jody's family recognized the sponsors and thanked everyone for their support.

We received a bag of color in our packet to throw during the final color blast.

I had a blast at this race. I hope it becomes an annual event!
